Title continues: The whole calculated for general use and convenience, both on land and sea. 55, [4] pages, however the pagination is a mess. Leaves marked as page 29, 30, 41, 42 appear twice - each with different content. The leaves marked twice as pages 48, 49, 50, 51 are identical. No pages are numbered 33, 34, 45, 46. In spite of this ironic embarassment, the volume appears to be complete and bound in order. Marbled paper over boards with leather spine and tips. Foxing and stains throughout. Binding sound. "Time Register" stamped in gilt to spine.

Scott Submarine Engineer and Diver, Books, Pens, quack medicine, photography, &c. 1868 a little stiff and with moderate staining; cover chipped and stained on 1870; title page chipped and detached and final leaf chipped on 1887.

The two earliest are very good, with minor soiling to covers; 1886 is good only, with silverfish damage to edges (not intruding to text), and rear cover detached. A trove of medical and astronomical lore. Each has month-by-month almanac with pictorial headpieces, as well as text regarding numerous maladies, potential cures, &c.

New Haven, Conn. Maltby, Goldsmith & Co 1818 Sewn wrapper Good 12mo. 
A remarkably early Solon Robinson piece consisting of his inscriptions in An Agricultural and Economical Almanack For The Year Of Our Lord 1818. [Elijah Middlebrook. New Haven, Conn.: Maltby, Goldsmith & Co.] This constitutes evidence of his hitherto rumoured earliest days of peddling, before rising to prominence in Indiana. He would have been 14 yrs old in Jan. 1818. The inscriptions, in order of placement in the almanac are as follows: "Capt. Eliphalet Hendee [illeg.] Andover Society Tolland County Jan 25th 1818" / "Maltby Goldsmith and Co keeps constantly on hand all kinds books which they will sell for cash on the lowest terms NB all pedlars supplied on the shortest Notice" / "NB the highest prise in the Trainfield Lottery is three thousand Dollars. Written for the benefit of Amelia Babcock Coventry January 2nd 1820 Solon Robinson. This is to certyfy [?sic] that the above writing is of no use to any one. Solon Rb" [squiggled] [Amelia Babcock was the wife of Capt. Eliphalet Hendee; as residents of Tolland they would have known Robinson also of Tolland] / "Solon Robinson Pedlar and Hawker and petty Chapman A native of Tolland A resident of Saybrook old Society Oyster River Village one mile from the platform State of Connecicut [sic] S" / "Solon Robinson Coventry Jan 2nd A 1820 Andover [At Mile R ?] Mansfield Conn" / Brief notation to otherwise blank leaf: S B16818 Nov / Finally and fittingly considering his future in agriculture, his notation beneath the printed notice of frequent complaints of bad vegetables which a little care would prevent: "I believe it". Almanc in fair condition only with edges tanned and brittle, corners curled. The last complete page is 32, with only the upper portion of pp. 33-36 remaining [of 36]. Side and saddle sewn binding is sound.
