A pleasing example of turn-of-the-century design advertising. Original promotional book of 36 pages, plus card covers. A fine work of design in itself, with hand-stitched gold cord binding.

Card covers, plus 8 leaves (16 pages) and loose inserts. Well presented catalogue, profusely illustrated; ads at rear. "Golekan is another name for the distinctive three-dimensional Indonesian puppets crafted from wood. Unlike traditional wayang golek figures, F. Widayanto's golekan are created using clay with a variety of decorative glazes. And instead of retelling ancient legends, they tend to suggest stories about today or even hint at possibilities for the future. With artist statement and essay by Sindhunata.." {Asia Art Archive}. Excellent condition with no inscriptions; stapled binding is sound. Loosely inserted are two news paper reviews: Sunday Observer and the Jakarta Post, both from October, 1997, and some photocopies.

No. 910 : The Village of Bowness / Windermere ~ Aug 10, 1846 (spots surrounding image). No. 598 : Conistone Water / Lancashire ~ Sep. 4, 1845 (shadows top left of plate). Unnumbered : Rydal Lake, Westmoreland ~ Sept. 16, 1842 (light foxing upper half). No. 599 : Grasmere ~ Aug. 6, 1845 (plate not bad but surrounded by light splotches). No. 433 : Ambleside, Westmoreland ~ Aug. 27, 1842 (general heavy foxing). Book measures 8.7 x 5.25 inches. Binding is sturdy, with original endpapers inked at front (pictured), clear at rear. Each plate has a blank paper leaf guard. Foxing to most plates to varying degree, with a few entirely clean. Please consult the photos for a representative sampling (and by all means request specific photos if interested). It is worth comparing the specific titles in this series with the copy of another issue held at Yale that has 12 views (worldcat); five views in ours are not present in theirs. Our volume does not indicate a publisher or date of issue.

All leaves with at least light soiling, though mostly marginal [not intruding to the image]. Happy to forward more photos. Despite some loss of cloth spine panel binding is secure. The original slipcase is sturdy and complete without splitting: long ago covered in patterned book-covering paper (similar to thin wallpaper) that appears to be stuck to the slipcase only along fore-edges.
