A superb piece of butchery memorabilia from the early days of organized meat-processing in Canada. Advertising hams and bacon for the Easter trade, dated March 16th, 1896. Easter Sunday fell less than three weeks later, on the 5th of April. Laing Packing and Provision Co., Montreal: "Anchor Brand". For such a piece of ephemera to survive is uncommon; the high quality of printing, including the use of gold ink for the border and meats, is remarkable. Tipping the ad one sees iridescence in the shining gold not seen in our scan. There are three closed tears: one short to the left and right margin and the other on the right intruding into the right hand ham. The sheet has two horizontal creases. Measures 8.25 x 5.5 inches.
