Illustrated by L. Espinasse. Verses by G. M. Matheson. Sands & Co., Burleigh Street, Strand. 11.8 x 9.1 inches. A charming rarity of juvenile Victorian horse racing satire. Consider as disbound: the string meant to hold text block to spine is present but is well loose; half title is detached. Covers are in one piece with spine intact. Evidence of missing light paper front fly leaf at lower left of half title; no rear endpaper. Otherwise apparently complete, with title page followed by eleven leaves (upaginated, I can't find another copy with which to collate but Worldcat has "" as does our copy). Rhyme is on left and illustration on right: 10 illustrations plus title page. General light soiling overall, with heavy pencil marks and abrasion to the plate of "The Retreat" (see photo with pencil happy face) and a bit of crud to first line of text of "But Not Always Honest". Offsetting to pastedowns. No stated date of publication; Worldcat has it at 1889.
